Matt Schwartz has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Matt began their career in 1983 as a Regional Field Coordinator for U.S. Senator Gary Hart's 1984 Presidential Campaign, where they contributed to the campaign's field organization and delegate recruitment strategies. After that, they served as the Executive Producer for the "Rethinking Rape" documentary film, handling all aspects of production, including fundraising.

In 1985, Matt joined Yayasan Mandiri as a VIA Appropriate Technology Program Volunteer, assisting with grant proposals and developing an Indonesian version of a portable library of appropriate technology information. Following that, they worked for CARE International Indonesia as a Health Program Evaluation Officer, conducting evaluations and serving as a liaison between field staff and senior management.

In 1990, Matt became a Senior Project Manager at MidPen Housing Corporation, a non-profit developer and manager of affordable housing. During their tenure, they contributed to the development of over 100 communities and 8,000 homes for low-income individuals and families.

From 1998 to 2002, Matt worked at the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency as a Senior Development Specialist. In this role, they utilized their expertise in development, planning, and financing to contribute to various projects.

Finally, Matt's most recent and ongoing position is as the President & CEO of the California Housing Partnership Corporation, where they have been since 2002. In this role, they play a crucial leadership role in shaping housing-related legislation and regulations to expand affordable housing resources for the state's lowest-income residents. Their outstanding work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the 2010 Advocate of the Year by the Southern California Association of NonProfit Housing and the 2013 Inspirational Leader Award by the NonProfit Housing Association of Northern California.

Matt Schwartz attended Manhattan Country School from 1967 to 1977. Matt then pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in History at Stanford University from 1981 to 1985. Following that, they attended Harvard Kennedy School from 1988 to 1990 and earned a Master of Public Policy degree with a focus on Housing and Human Services.
