Kate McGarry

Associate Professor at California Jazz Conservatory

Kate McGarry is an accomplished jazz vocalist and educator, currently serving as an Associate Professor at the California Jazz Conservatory since September 2019. Previously, McGarry held positions as Jazz Voice Faculty at the Manhattan School of Music from July 2014 to May 2018 and again from September 2007 to May 2009. Additionally, McGarry was an Instructor of Jazz Voice at the New England Conservatory in early 2014, teaching private studio lessons during a sabbatical. McGarry also contributed as faculty at Jazz Camp West during 2008-2009. McGarry earned a Bachelor's degree in Afro-American Music and Jazz from the University of Massachusetts Amherst between 1981 and 1985.

The California Jazz Conservatory is a private music school in Berkeley, California. It is the only independent music conservatory in the United States devoted solely to jazz and related styles of music. Located in the Downtown Berkeley Arts District, the CJC offers Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Jazz Studies. The Conservatory also offers community education classes and workshops for instrumentalists and vocalists and precollege youth programs for beginning, intermediate and advanced musicians.
