Alan Caughley

Alan Caughley is an accomplished engineering professional currently serving as a Distinguished Research Engineer at Callaghan Innovation since November 2013. In this role, Alan has taken on several leadership positions, including Principal Engineer and Team Leader for Advanced Engineering and Materials, where responsibilities include managing R&D in thermodynamics, cryogenic refrigeration, renewable energy, and hydrogen technologies. Prior to this, Alan led the Christchurch Engineering team, which was part of the Superconductivity and Energy group. Alan's extensive experience spans multiple organizations, including Industrial Research Ltd and Applied Design Development, where roles included Team Leader and Mechanical Engineer, respectively. Alan holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Canterbury.
