Editor-in-Chief at CALmatters

Kristen Go has over 20 years of experience in journalism and media. Beginning in 1997 as an intern at The Dallas Morning News, they worked as a reporter for The Denver Post from 1998 to 2000, where they covered stories including the shootings at Columbine High School. Kristen then worked as a content manager for The Arizona Republic from 2000 to 2008, supervising a team of reporters and working as an education and municipal reporter.

From 2014 to 2016, Go worked for the San Francisco Chronicle and SFGate as an assistant managing editor, where they oversaw business coverage, San Francisco politics, and transportation. In 2015, they became the managing editor of digital, and in 2016, they left to become the editorial director of Common Sense News Service.

In 2017, Go became the director of special projects for the Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley School of Journalism. Kristen then worked for USA Today from 2018 to 2022, where they held several roles, including managing editor of news, executive editor of news and initiatives, and vice president and executive editor of news and initiatives.

Go's next role will be editor-in-chief of CalMatters, starting in May 2023.
