Don Shannon

RF Wireless Engineer, Principal at Technical Solutions

Don Shannon has a diverse work experience with a focus on technical expertise and leadership roles. Don is currently working as an RF Wireless Engineer, Principal at HII Technical Solutions, supporting the Spectrum Policy and Programs Directorate within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Don forges collaborative teams with key DoD stakeholders and commercial industry to meet DoD's Electromagnetic Spectrum Superiority Strategy.

Prior to their current role, Don was an Advisory Board Member at StormQuant, where they advised a dynamic and innovative team in generating hyperlocal, real-time HD weather information for risk management decisions.

Don also has experience at Alion Science and Technology, where they served as an RF Wireless Engineer, Principal, supporting Department of Defense Spectrum Policy and Program activities within the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Before transitioning to the private sector, Don had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force. Don served as a Senior Operations Executive, devising and implementing risk management decisions for a vast range. Don also held the position of Group Commander, leading a 600-person organization spanning multiple continents and overseeing a multimillion-dollar upgrade.

Earlier in their career, Don worked at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency as a Senior Technical Officer, optimizing U.S. plans and resources in Meteorology-Oceanography. Don also served as the Chief of Doctrine Development at USSOCOM, where they published a foundational document and revolutionized the management and presentation of special operations doctrine.

Don Shannon's education history is as follows:

Don Shannon attended the Virginia Tech College of Engineering from 1986 to 1991, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

In 1991 to 1992, they pursued further education at Florida State University, earning a Certificate in Meteorology.

From 1997 to 1999, Don studied at the University of Utah and obtained a Master of Science degree in Meteorology.

In 2004 to 2005, they attended the USAF Air Command and Staff College and earned a Master of Science degree.

In 2011 to 2012, Don Shannon studied at the Marine Corps War College and obtained a Master of Science degree.

In 2013, they completed a program at the Center for Leadership (CL), focusing on Leadership at the Peak.
