Camp Fireweed Core Counselor 

Camp Fireweed is NOT an overnight camp and does NOT provide room and board

Gear up for outdoor adventures at our day camp located in Anchorage on the campus of Alaska Pacific University. We take full advantage of this natural setting, making every day another opportunity for campers to explore the forest, practice target sports, or launch a canoe from the waterfront. In addition to a huge catalog of activities and games, we structure each session to create a classic, outdoor summer camp experience!

Position Description:

A Camp Fireweed Core Counselor adheres to Camp Fire Alaska’s (CFAK) promise to provide youth with the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are through positive and responsible youth/adult interactions within the day camp environment. The Core Counselor will be responsible for assisting and subbing for the Specialists as well as the day to day supervision of a group of campers.

In this position you'll gain valuable experience providing a high-quality camp experience for participants and parents within the CFA mission and goals. You'll have an opportunity to lead and participate in all camp activities along with planning and implementing age appropriate activities consistent with campers' needs/abilities that promote, encourage, and demonstrate caring, striving and thriving. Pay: $18.90 - 21.55/hour DOE

  • Bonus for completing the full season

Work Dates: May 5th - August 8,  2025 (beginning with planning and start-up training)

Work Schedule: 8 hours/day, Monday - Friday during camp program hours of 7am – 6pm

Qualifications: 

  • Required certification in one of these areas from nationally recognized provider:

    • Belay
    • Basic Archery Instructor
    • Lifeguard
    • Small watercraft safety
    • Wilderness First Aid
  • Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.

  • Current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized provider (preferred) or availability to attend a certification course at the Camp Fire AK local office prior to listed position start date.

  • Prior experience working with youth preferred.
