Mena El-Turky

Associate Director, Advocacy at Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids

Mena El-Turky is the Associate Director of Advocacy at Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Mena has dedicated their career to fighting tobacco use and advocating for public health.

El-Turky began their career as a Health Communication Intern at RTI International in May 2013. There, they worked on developing surveys and programming them in Qualtrics. Mena also cleaned data and oversaw recruitment strategy. In May 2014, they left RTI to take a position as Editor & Technical Writer at Counter Tools.

In January 2014, El-Turky started working as a Project Manager at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. There, they managed the implementation of a large, multi-site randomized controlled trial evaluating the impact of cigarette pack graphic health warnings on smoking behavior. This required developing data collection protocols, training data collectors, and routine site monitoring. El-Turky also oversaw the project's administration, including budgeting, subcontract management, and IRB applications. Mena left UNC Lineberger in May 2015.

El-Turky has also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Office of the Dean at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and as a Teaching Assistant at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mena El-Turky holds a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Art in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis.

They are on a team with Hema S. Khanchandani - Associate Director, Advocacy, Ryan Greenstein - Associate Director, Advocacy, and Meredith Larson - Associate Director, Advocacy. Mena El-Turky reports to Caroline Goncalves Jones, Director, Advocacy & Outreach.
