Declan O’Brien

Declan O'Brien has a strong background in design and engineering, with experience in various roles and industries. Declan is currently the Portfolio Design Director for Campus Living Villages, overseeing projects in Australia, the UK, and the US. Prior to this, Declan worked as a Senior Design Manager at Westbourne Constructions Pty Ltd from 2021 to 2023. Before that, they served as the Managing Director of The Design Co. from 2016 to 2023. Declan also held the position of Design & Engineering Lead at Scentre Group, the owner and operator of Westfield in Australia and New Zealand, from 2014 to 2021. Declan started their professional career as a Senior Project Engineer at UGL from 2010 to 2014. Additionally, they worked as a Project Manager at Sydney Civil Pty Ltd from 2009 to 2010 and as a Site Engineer at Pierse Contracting from 2006 to 2008. Declan's early experience includes working as an Undergraduate Engineer and General Labourer at John Sisk and Son Ltd in 2006.

Declan O'Brien's education history includes a Bachelor of Science - BSc (Hons) degree in Construction Management & Engineering from the Waterford Institute of Technology, which they obtained from 2004 to 2009. Declan is currently pursuing a Master of Engineering Practice - MEng degree in Master of Structural Engineering from the University of Southern Queensland. Their expected completion date is 2022. In addition to their formal education, Declan has obtained several certifications, including being registered on the National Engineering Register by Engineers Australia in September 2020. Declan also holds certifications from the Risk Engineering Society, the Australian Engineered Fasteners and Anchors Council (AEFAC), Engineers Australia (National Engineers Register), Strategic Environmental and Engineering Consulting (Soil & Water Management), Engineers Australia (Engineer), and Engineers Ireland (Associate).
