Serena Vandersteen

Serena Vandersteen is the current Winnipeg Chapter Lead at Canada Learning Code. Serena has over 7 years of experience in the software development industry.

Serena started their career at iQmetrix in November 2013 as an Integrations Software Developer. Serena worked on a variety of micro-services, including the Carrier Service, Loyalty Service, Vendor Inventory Management Service, Bill Pay Service and the Order Pick Up Service. Serena was responsible for integrating various third party providers with RQ, which entailed development that was specific to each client and their API. All work was unit tested, and if it was external facing, API changes were documented for client reference.

In January 2019, Serena left iQmetrix to join Hippo CMMS as a Software Developer. At Hippo CMMS, they contributed to the development of microservices which enhanced the company's main piece of web-based maintenance management software. Serena also designed and developed RESTful APIs for use both internally and externally (Parts, Assets, Work Orders). In addition, Serena wrote unit tests and any documentation required for the APIs consumption.

Serena has a wealth of experience in full stack development, working with both SOAP and REST API's, SQL, C#, .NET Core 2.0, WPF, Azure Table Storage, Azure Service Bus, Docker, Kubernetes. Serena also has limited experience developing Web applications, which integrated with the micro

Serena Vandersteen completed a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Manitoba. Serena is certified in Duolingo French Fluency: Advanced and Functional Programming Principles in Scala from Coursera.
