Nicola Case is a PhD candidate in Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto, with a research focus on human fungal pathogens under the supervision of Dr. Leah Cowen. Since September 2018, Nicola has served as a Teaching Assistant in General and Human Genetics, leading tutorials and providing comprehensive feedback to students. Additionally, Nicola is an Assistant Coach for the Women's Varsity Rugby team, where responsibilities include planning drills and fostering team cohesion. As Co-President of the Department of Molecular Genetics Graduate Student Association, advocacy for student interests and community building are key duties. Nicola also contributes as the Program Reporter for CIFAR's Fungal Kingdom initiative, synthesizing reports on research progress related to fungal threats. Prior experience includes a research assistant position in Dr. Marla Sokolowski's lab, studying the foraging behavior of Drosophila melanogaster. Educational accomplishments include an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Western University.
