Josh Mottaz has a diverse work experience in various companies.

From September 2020 until the present, they have been working as the Director of Platform Engineering for Canary (canary.is). In this role, they were responsible for managing a team of engineers, planning the technical roadmap, and implementing career development events and team-building activities.

Prior to their current role, from September 2016 to September 2020, Josh worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Canary. Josh led a major overhaul of the company's video aggregation pipeline and feed API, improving outage recovery and eliminating race conditions. Additionally, they optimized the feed and segment metadata storage using Cassandra.

Before joining Canary, from September 2015 to June 2016, Josh worked as a Software Engineer at Luminus Networks. Josh developed and maintained RESTful Python microservices, designed an authentication system, and automated deployment processes.

From June 2011 to September 2015, Josh served as a Software Engineer at Cray Inc. Josh worked on hardware services and the operating system, writing monitoring daemons and enhancing existing tools. Additionally, they created a CLI tool in Python for diagnostic purposes, which was widely used internally and by customers.

In 2010, Josh had an internship as a Software Development Intern at RealNetworks. During this time, they established a process and tools for deploying pre-configured LAMP servers for smartphone developers and performed system administration tasks.

Throughout their career, Josh has demonstrated expertise in engineering, team management, architectural design, and automation.

Josh Mottaz earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Washington. Josh attended the university from 2008 to 2011.
