Ritsaart Marcelis has extensive experience in the field of architecture, with a focus on Higher Education projects. Ritsaart began their career as an Architectural Designer at Bennett Frank McCarthy Architects in 2006, where they worked until 2008. Following this, they gained further experience as an Architectural Designer - Intern at Perkins+Will from June 2008 to August 2008. In 2010, they joined MV+A Architects as an Architectural Designer and worked there until 2011. Ritsaart then transitioned to Fielding Nair International, where they served as a Senior Design Associate from June 2011 to September 2015. Since September 2015, Ritsaart has been an integral part of CannonDesign, initially as a Senior Associate / Arch IV and currently as an Associate Vice President. In this role, they primarily focus on Higher Education projects throughout the United States, contributing to the full design process from programming to construction administration.

Ritsaart Marcelis, AIA, NCARB pursued their education in the field of architecture. Ritsaart completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Architecture at the University of Maryland from 2002 to 2006. Following this, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Japanese at the same university during the academic year 2006-2007. Ritsaart then furthered their education and completed a Master of Architecture (MArch) degree at the University of Maryland from 2007 to 2009.

Moreover, Ritsaart Marcelis has obtained the certification of Architect from the District of Columbia Board of Architecture, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture in June 2019.
