M Waleed Kadous

M Waleed Kadous is an accomplished engineering leader and applied scientist with expertise in generative AI and distributed computing. Currently serving as Engineering Lead for the Generative AI division at Canva since March 2024, Kadous previously held positions including Principal Applied Scientist at Canva and Chief Scientist at Anyscale, where efforts focused on evolving the company’s mission of creating a powerful distributed computing platform. Kadous has a rich background with Uber, contributing to architectural advancements and innovation in the Maps division, as well as a significant tenure at Google, where promotions culminated in the role of Principal Software Engineer. Additionally, Kadous co-founded the CVKey Project aimed at responsible community reopening during the COVID-19 pandemic and founded the Australian Muslim Civil Rights Advocacy Network to educate against broad anti-terror laws. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Computer Science with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, both from the University of New South Wales.
