Rober S. Langer

Robert S. Langer ScD, David H. Koch Institute Professor of MIT, is a widely recognized engineer who pioneered academic disciplines of drug delivery and tissue engineering. He is the most cited engineer in history with a total citation of approximately 250,000 times (h-index: 250). He completed his undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering at Cornell University and obtained his Sc.D. in Chemical Engineering at MIT. He joined MIT as Assistant Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry in 1978. Dr. Langer has written over 1,400 articles and also has nearly 1,300 patents worldwide. Dr. Langer’s patents have been licensed or sublicensed to over 350 pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, and medical device companies. He is a member of all three national academies (inducted by the age of 43 to all three, which was the youngest in history). He is one of 4 living individuals to have received both the United States National Medal of Science (2006) and the United States National Medal of Technology and Innovation (2011).
