Kayla Bruce has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Kayla is currently working as an Energy Management Engineer-in-Training (EIT) at Capital Power, where they are responsible for real-time management, compliance monitoring, and risk mitigation for generation facilities across North America. Prior to this, Kayla co-founded and served as the Assistant Director of Green Okanagan, a volunteer-led NGO focused on climate action and sustainability education. In this role, they managed content creation, social media, event planning, and curated a local directory. Kayla also worked as a Project Coordinator at Stamped Engineering Corporation, supporting various multidisciplinary projects and providing client relations, project planning, and document control. Additionally, they gained experience as a Student Leader at The University of British Columbia, where they served as a Peer Notetaker and strengthened their ability to disseminate complex information. Furthermore, Kayla worked as a Waste Reduction Assistant at the City of Fort Saskatchewan, where they were involved in implementing a new waste and organics program and developing community environmental awareness. Kayla also had internships at Cybernius Medical Ltd., where they developed graphical user interfaces for medical software and provided application development support. Kayla Bruce completed their education at The University of British Columbia from 2014 to 2019, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering. In 2016, they also attended Delft University of Technology as an exchange student, focusing on Transportation and Highway Engineering. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications, including Standard First Aid Level C CPR and AED from St. John Ambulance Canada | Ambulance Saint-Jean in September 2022, The Rosie Mentoring Program from The Prosperity Project in July 2022, Climate Reality Leader from The Climate Reality Project in October 2021, Sustainability in Practice from Polytechnique Montréal in May 2021, and Engineer In Training from The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) in January 2020. Kayla also holds an Open Water Scuba Diving certification from PADI, although the month and year of obtaining it are not specified.
