Melvys Valledor

Sr Scientist at Carbon Biosciences

Melvys Valledor has a long and varied work experience. In 1996, Valledor began as an undergraduate research thesis at the Center for Genetic Engineering (CIGB) in Habana, Cuba. After that, in 2001, Valledor took a job as a patent examiner for applications in biotechnology at the Cuban Industrial Property Office in Havana, Cuba. In 2005, Valledor began a PhD student role at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, and also completed a PhD rotation. During this time, Valledor was also a research scientist in the Rudd lab, focusing on functional genomics in E. coli. In 2014, Valledor took a postdoctoral researcher role at the Miami Veterans Administration Medical Center. From 2015 to 2022, Valledor worked at UMass Chan Medical School, first as a postdoctoral research associate and then as an instructor. Valledor's instructor role included molecular engineering projects coupled with novel epigenetic tools, teaching and advising others in the lab, and identification and conduct of new collaborative research projects. Finally, in 2022, Valledor began a Sr Scientist role at Carbon Biosciences.

Melvys Valledor's education history includes a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the University of Havana, Havana, Cuba, earned between 1993 and 1999. From 2007 to 2013, Valledor completed a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Most recently, Valledor completed a Postdoctoral research in Epigenetics from UMass Chan Medical School from 2015 to 2019.
