Matthew Pickard

Regional Director for Southern Africa at CARE

Matthew Pickard has more than 25 years of International Development experience. He is currently serving as the Regional Director for Southern Africa for CARE USA, responsible for CARE’s programming and Country Offices in Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Tanzania. Prior to that Matthew served as Country Director with various International NGOs, in Malawi (2011-16), Lao PDR (2008-11), India (2005-08), and Mozambique (2000-05).

Matthew is an experienced Regional Leader and Country Director and has worked extensively within the International NGO sector in both development and humanitarian settings in Asia and Sub Saharan Africa. Matthew brings a strong commitment to localization and women’s leadership and a strong track record of private sector engagement. Before joining the International NGO sector Matthew worked in the private sector in the United Kingdom.

He obtained his Master’s degree in Social Anthropology of Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London and a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from University of Kent, Canterbury.
