Martin McGuire

Martin McGuire is the Engineering Director at Careys. Martin's role is to deliver cohesion and bring together the right expertise across the company to ensure they always continually improve. As Engineering Director, he is responsible for ensuring that Health & Safety, Engineering, Design & Planning are all linked together and provides their client partners with safe, innovative, and timely solutions that minimize risk. As well as supporting the operational teams to successfully deliver the national projects, Martin's role is also to ensure that experts from across their Group Services teams are contributing to improvement projects that progress them an organization.

Martin is the Chair of the Operational Improvement Panel at Careys, to ensure they are harnessing innovation and expertise from across the organization.

Martin decided to come over to the UK to do backpacking in 1997. He progressed his career through various roles until he joined Careys as a Site Engineer in 2000, his career journey has seen him progress through different levels, getting an understanding of the challenges at each one.

He was born in Scotland and raised in Southern Africa. His dad was an ex-navy engineer, and always had high ambitions for them. At school, he enjoyed Maths, Sciences, and Geography and his early ambition were to become a Mechanical Engineer. As a teenager in South Africa, Martin worked in a factory on a milling machine in a big hot metal shed. He joined the army, which gave him time to think about what he really enjoyed – the great outdoors. That really inspired him to start his career in Civil Engineering. He got a scholarship at college and worked out on the field with pipe layers, carpenters, steel fixers, and other trades, and remembers feeling grateful for the life experience he gained.

Outside of work, Martin enjoys camping in the great outdoors with his two teenage boys and teaching them camping skills, and they in turn teach him how to switch the tv on! He has a motorbike and enjoys spending time on the road with her! Martin loves travelling and have the ambition to try to meet as many different people with different outlooks across the world as he can.
