Ronnie Hoogerwerf has a long and varied work experience, beginning in 1996 as a Graduate Student at Leiden Observatory, where they modeled the kinematic properties of star clusters using position and velocity data from the Hipparcos satellite. In 2000, they joined ABN Amro as a Derivatives Researcher, responsible for validating models of FX and Equity derivatives and models of Value at Risk (VaR). In 2002, they became a Research Astrophysicist at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, where they worked on the physics of solar type stars and white-dwarf binary systems. In 2006, they joined Interactive Supercomputing, Inc. as an Application Engineer. In 2009, they moved to Microsoft as an Interim Group Manager and Senior Program Manager Lead, where they drove product definition, strategy, and planning through functional specification and product plans based on customer focus groups, design review meetings, competitive analysis. In 2012, they joined CargoMetrics as a Principal Lead Scientist, and in 2016, they were named Head of Data Science at CargoMetrics Technologies LLC.
Ronnie Hoogerwerf received a B.S. in Astrophysics from Leiden University between 1991 and 1996. Ronnie then returned to Leiden University to pursue a PhD in Astrophysics, which they completed in 2000.
