Michelle Franklin has a diverse and extensive work experience in the healthcare industry. Michelle started their career in 1991 as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital. Michelle worked in this role until 1992 when they transitioned to the Labor and Delivery department of the same hospital, continuing as a Registered Nurse until 1998. During this time, they also worked as a Women's Health Educator in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Carilion Clinic from 1998 to 2000. In 2000, they joined Carilion Clinic, Family Community Medicine as a Clinical Team Leader until 2001. Michelle then joined Carilion Clinic in various roles such as Practice Manager in Medical Education, Regional Practice Director, and Senior Director in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Their most recent role was as Vice President of Hospital Operations, where they demonstrated strong leadership and management skills in overseeing regional ambulatory women's services. Michelle has a proven track record in clinical excellence, operational performance, and fiscal oversight, with 28 years of experience in both clinical and managerial roles.

Michelle Franklin obtained their Masters of Science in Nursing, with a specialization in Leadership and Management, from Walden University in 2012. In 2017, they became certified as a Nurse Executive Advanced - Board Certified (NEA-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
