Marlena Jones

Acting Director, Carnegie Academy For Science Education at Carnegie Institution for Science

Marlena Jones has a diverse work experience in the field of science education and program coordination. Marlena started their career at the Carnegie Institution for Science in 2007 as a Coordinator of Programs, a role they held until 2015. From 2011 to 2015, they also worked as the Master Teacher Program Coordinator at Math for America DC, a program at the Carnegie Institution. In 2015, Marlena became the Manager of Educational Programs and Outreach at Carnegie Institution, a position they held until 2016 when they became the Acting Director of the Carnegie Academy for Science Education. In the same year, they also began working as the Director of the DC STEM Network, a role they held until 2018. Marlena was part of the inaugural cohort of the LEAD STEM program at STEM Learning Ecosystems from 2018 to 2019. Prior to their work at the Carnegie Institution, they were the Director of The Discovery Center for Cell and Molecular Biology at The Catholic University of America from 1993 to 2007.

Marlena Jones has a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from The Catholic University of America. Marlena also holds two Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees, one in Biology, General and the other in Biochemistry, both from the University of Maryland. Additionally, they attended the University of Virginia, but no specific degree or field of study is provided for that institution.
