Joan Gary's education history begins in 2009 when they enrolled at the University of Notre Dame. Joan obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Geoscience from Notre Dame in 2013. In 2011, they participated in a semester study abroad program at The University of Western Australia.

In addition to their formal education, Joan also has several certifications. Joan completed the M-I SWACO Drilling Fluid Technical School I in 2013, followed by the M-I SWACO Environmental Solutions Technical School in 2014. In 2015, they completed the M-I SWACO Cutting Reinjection Technical School. Joan also obtained the WellSharp Well Control certification in 2018 from the International Association of Drilling Contractors. Furthermore, they obtained the 1651- Construction Worker Safety certification in 2017 from NLCSA and the WHMIS 2015 certification in 2017 from Global HazMat Inc.
