Derrick Irby

Derrick has over 20 years of experience advising and leading the finance activities of insurance and reinsurance companies, including managing finance operations, structuring (re)insurance and capital markets transactions, strategic investments, mergers and acquisitions and related integration activities.

His corporate finance and insurance industry accounting and finance experience was obtained from 17 years at AXA XL and 8+ years in public accounting. Derrick first began advising insurance companies when he joined PwC’s Philadelphia office in 1998 where he worked in their audit and advisory services group. In 2000, he moved to PwC’s Bermuda office to provide audit and advisory services to private and public insurance and reinsurance companies.

In 2002, he began his 17 year career at XL Capital in an accounting policy role where he managed all accounting related to complex transactions and the application of SEC and FASB accounting guidance. In 2005 he was named CFO of XL Re Ltd and XL Re Latin America. Subsequently he progressed through increasingly senior finance leadership roles including CFO of XL Group’s global reinsurance business and served as a Managing Director on AXA XL’s Leadership Council. During XL’s acquisition of Catlin and the subsequent AXA acquisition of XL Group, Derrick served as the Head of Finance, P&C Insurance and Reinsurance. He led a global team of ~100 people responsible for supporting all major insurance and reinsurance lines of business, financial planning and analysis, management information and strategic planning.

Derrick holds Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designations. He has a B.A. in Economics and Business Administration from Ursinus College in Pennsylvania.
