Sathya Sankaran

Chief Operating Officer at Catalogic Software

Sathya Sankaran has a diverse work experience spanning over 15 years. Sathya started their career as an Associate Software Engineer at Syncsort, where they supported and maintained a data protection and disaster recovery product. Sathya later became a Software Engineer and then moved up to become a Group Leader in Product Services, where they managed a team responsible for the renewal of over 1000 North American accounts. Sathya also led a POC pilot program and an expertise development program for support engineers.

After their time at Syncsort, Sathya joined Catalogic Software Inc. as the Director of Sales Engineering & Services. In this role, they led the Solutions Architect and Professional Services team, and had hands-on involvement in all POCs, sales, and deliveries. Sathya also traveled extensively, meeting with customers and prospects. Sathya then moved on to become the VP of Business Development/Field CTO, where they were responsible for strategic alliances and partnerships, including the onboarding and nurturing of the IBM partnership. During this time, they also led a minority investment in Storware and built a Catalogic subsidiary in Warsaw, Poland. Eventually, Sathya became the Chief Operating Officer of Catalogic, leading the company to profitability for three consecutive years and overseeing the divestiture of the On-premises copy data management portfolio to IBM Storage.

Most recently, Sathya founded CloudCasa by Catalogic and serves as the Founder and General Manager. CloudCasa is a backup service for Kubernetes and CloudNative workloads, with features such as free snapshots and vulnerability assessments. Sathya unveiled the SaaS offering at KubeCon 2020 and has since steadily grown its user base. In addition, they played a key role in the acquisition of CloudCasa by IBM in 2021.

Before starting their professional career, Sathya worked as an Assistant System Administrator at Columbia University on a part-time basis.

Sathya Sankaran has a diverse educational background. From 2000 to 2004, they attended the University of Madras, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communications. Moving forward, they pursued further education at Columbia University from 2004 to 2005, earning a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. Seeking additional expertise, Sathya then enrolled at NYU Stern School of Business from 2008 to 2011, where they completed their MBA with a focus on Financial systems, analytics and Strategy.
