Olivier Laroche

Olivier Laroche has a diverse work experience, with roles in various scientific and environmental organizations. Starting in 2008, Olivier worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Québec at Rimouski. In 2009, they worked as a Laboratory Assistant at the Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. In 2011, Olivier served as an Environmental Advisor at the Caribbean Maritime Institute. Olivier then transitioned to the role of Marine Biologist at the University of the Azores in 2012. In 2013, they worked as an Environmental Technician at NI Environment. From 2015 to 2018, Olivier was a PhD candidate at the Cawthron Institute, followed by a position as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of Hawaii at Manoa from 2018 to 2019. Most recently, Olivier has been working at the Cawthron Institute since 2020, holding roles as a Molecular ecologist, Bioinformatician, and Data Scientist.

Olivier Laroche has a diverse education history. Olivier began their education at the Cegep of Victoriaville from 2000 to 2004 where they obtained a Collegial diploma in the field of Exploitation and Management of Agricultural Enterprises. Olivier then pursued their Bachelor's degree in Biology at the Université du Québec à Rimouski from 2005 to 2009. In 2006 to 2007, they spent a year at the University of the Antilles and French Guiana, where they obtained another Baccalaureat in Biology. Olivier continued their studies and completed their Master's degree in Environment at the Université de Sherbrooke from 2009 to 2011. Olivier's education journey culminated in obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biology from The University of Auckland from 2015 to 2018.

In addition to their formal education, Olivier has obtained several certifications. Olivier completed courses such as "Species Distribution Models with GIS & Machine Learning in R," "Complete Python 3 Masterclass Journey," "Python 3: Deep Dive (Part 1)," "Data Science and Machine Learning Bootcamp with R," "LaTeX for professional publications," and "Python for Data Science and Machine Learning Bootcamp" from Udemy. Olivier also achieved fluency in Intermediate Spanish through Duolingo.
