Zewditu Demissie serves as the Associate Director for Science in the Division of Birth Defects and Infant Disorders at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since July 2010, with previous roles including Deputy Associate Director for Science in the Division of Reproductive Health and Team Lead for Health Equity Infrastructure and Capacity Building in the Office of Health Equity. Additionally, Zewditu holds the position of Associate Chief of Science within the Division of Violence Prevention, Surveillance Branch, and has experience as a Supervisory Epidemiologist and Team Lead in the Division of Adolescent and School Health. As a Commander in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service, Zewditu has served since July 2011, previously as a Lieutenant Commander. Zewditu Demissie earned a PhD in Epidemiology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, complemented by a Graduate Certificate in Global Health from Uniformed Services University, an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota, and a B.S. in Genetics and Psychology from Iowa State University.
