Kevin Roberg-Perez

Kevin Roberg-Perez has extensive experience in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology. Kevin is currently serving as the Head of Computational Biology at Cemvita Factory Inc. Prior to this, Kevin founded Bioi, where they provided bioinformatics and consulting services to various clients. Their research projects at Bioi focused on genetic variations, RNA sequencing, genome assembly, and enzyme identification. Kevin also managed database development projects, including integrating patient EMR and genome data.

Before Bioi, Kevin worked as the Principal Bioinformatician at R & D Systems, leading a team that built a company-wide product development and project tracking system. Kevin introduced web-based technologies to modernize the R&D processes.

As a Senior Bioinformatician at NatureWorks LLC, Kevin utilized functional genomics, comparative genomics, and phylogenetics to advance biocatalyst development. Kevin significantly reduced bioinformatics overhead costs by implementing open-source solutions and overseeing the development of a proprietary genomic database. Additionally, they negotiated genome sequencing agreements.

In the early years of their career, Kevin held positions as a Bioinformatics Scientist at the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota, and as a Senior Manager of Database Development at Proteome Inc/Incyte Genomics. At Proteome Inc/Incyte Genomics, they played a crucial role in the company's growth and acquisition by managing a team responsible for software development, literature curation, and sequence analysis.

Kevin Roberg-Perez earned a Ph.D. in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1997. Kevin then served as a Jane Coffin Childs Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech from 1997 to 1998. Prior to that, they attained a BS in Genetics and Cell Biology, Magna cum Laude, from the University of Minnesota. Kevin also holds a BA in Italian from the University of Minnesota. In terms of additional certifications, they completed the HL7 FHIR Intermediate Course and the HL7 FHIR Fundamentals Course offered by HL7 in 2020 and 2019 respectively.
