Lauren Gilbert has an extensive work experience in the library and information science field. Lauren currently works as the Director of Public Services at the Center for Jewish History since April 2023. Prior to this role, they served as the Senior Manager for Public Services at the same organization from January 2019 to April 2023. Lauren was also a Reviewer of Literary Fiction for Library Journal, starting in May 2011 until April 2023. Before joining the Center for Jewish History, they were the Head of Community Services at Sachem Public Library from July 2010 to January 2019. Additionally, Lauren has held various roles in different organizations, including being the Conference Chair for the 2012 New York Library Association Conference from November 2011 to November 2012, Programs Chair for the Empire State Book Festival from 2009 to 2011, Information Services Manager at Cold Spring Harbor Library from July 2006 to July 2010, and Art Librarian at New York Institute of Technology from 2005 to 2006. Prior to these positions, they were a Reference Librarian at Huntington Public Library from 2001 to 2006, a Reference and Instruction Librarian at Dowling College from 2002 to 2003, and an Intern in the Department of Prints, Photographs, and Architectural Collections at the New-York Historical Society in 2001.
Lauren Gilbert has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Columbia University. Lauren also has a Master of Library Science degree and a Certificate in Archives and Manuscripts from LIU Post. Prior to that, they attended Stuyvesant High School. Additionally, they have studied Art History at New York University.
