Michael Burbank

VP, Law Enforcement Initiatives at Center for Policing Equity

In 1988, Michael started his law enforcement career with the Salt Lake City Police Department. Over the course of his 21-year career with the department, Michael worked in a variety of assignments including Patrol, Community Oriented Policing (COP) Bike Squad, Narcotics, Training, and Intelligence. Michael served as the Sergeant of Patrol, the Bike Squad, Training, and the Organized Crime Unit.

During his time with the Department, Michael proposed a Sergeant Training Program that was approved through civil service and adopted by the department. Additionally, he started and ran the organized crime unit for 5 years. While developing the Organized Crime Unit, Michael was able to build successful relationships and working groups with both state and federal agencies.

Michael joined the Center for Policing Equity (CPE) National Justice Database team in April of 2019. His desire to be part of the discussion on how police departments can continue to strive to provide the absolute best service to the communities they serve is what attracted him to CPE.

Michael received his BS degree from Columbia College.
