Fatema Aljar, ACCA, is a seasoned professional in the field of banking supervision, currently serving as Superintendent of Islamic Financial Institutions Supervision at the Central Bank of Bahrain since April 2017. Fatema oversees the supervision of Islamic wholesale and retail banks and specialized licensees, including ancillary service providers and microfinance institutions. Prior to this role, Fatema held positions as Senior Analyst and Analyst in the Retail Banking Supervision & Licensing Directorate, where responsibilities included supervising conventional retail banks and managing licensing applications. Fatema began their career in the banking sector with a summer trainee position at Ithmaar Bank and gained initial experience as a junior accountant at Chevron Bahrain. Fatema holds an ACCA qualification and is pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Islamic Finance from the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance, alongside a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Bahrain and a Certified Shari’a Advisor and Auditor designation from AAOIFI.
