Daniel McAvoy is a Senior Lecturer in Humanitarian Assistance at Deakin University and the Course Director for the Master of Humanitarian Assistance at the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership, positions held since February 2015. Previously, McAvoy served as a Senior Lecturer in International Development and a Lecturer in Development Studies at the University of East Anglia from 2008 to 2015. Research focuses include state-building interventions, transnational policing, and humanitarian efforts in the Asia-Pacific region. McAvoy has held various consultancy roles with organizations such as AusAID, UNDP, and UNICEF, contributing to peace-building communications, evaluating capacity-building initiatives, and assessing emergency responses. McAvoy's educational background includes a PhD in International Politics and Strategic Studies from The Australian National University, alongside Master’s degrees in Anthropology of Conflict and Applied Anthropology and Participatory Development.
