David Ojok

David Ojok, MSc, MPH is a biomedical scientist, Immunology and Clinical Microbiology specialist with over 15 years of experience leading and managing laboratory operations, programs, and research in both Uganda and Zambia. He is Laboratory Director, Lead Fleming Fund Country Grant, and PI of two studies with a focus on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). He has vast experience implementing and monitoring College of American Pathologists (CAP), ISO 15189, and Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) based QMS. He is a vetted nominated representative for accreditation and ISO 15189 Lab Technical Assessor.

He has over a decade of experience in health systems strengthening approach and collaborated with governments, to provide technical assistance directly to the Ministry of Health (MOH) in effective implementation of priority laboratory programs namely, equipment and method validation and verifications for national programs, equipment management programs at district laboratories and hubs, and set up of hub laboratories. He has also provided direct technical assistance to laboratories for readiness to acquire accreditation.

Currently focusing on better understanding of antibiotic resistance caused particularly by AMR bacteria in their local setting. Current work includes assessing AMR among priority bacteria pathogens, clinical outcomes, and exploring validation of antimicrobial analogs and use of molecular methods and artificial intelligence (AI) for analysis of bacterial genome and antibiotic resistance mechanisms.
