Mafalda Rangel is a researcher at the Centre for Marine Sciences (CCMAR) since June 2006, involved in various projects including the EU H2020 RIA project "MINOUW" and the development of a Responsive Fishery Management System for octopus fisheries. Rangel has held multiple research fellow positions on projects such as "EcoFishMan" and "Mesh Atlantic," contributing to the characterization of marine communities and seabed habitats. Education includes a PhD in Marine, Earth and Environmental Sciences from the University of Algarve, as well as a Master's in Marine Sciences from the University of Porto. Previous positions include teaching roles at various universities and research assistantships focused on marine biology and fisheries management. Rangel's work has significantly impacted coastal management and marine resource valuation in Portugal.
