During their time at Planning and Conservation League, Kelly served as a Global Warming Program Fellow and initiated a Local Climate Action Initiative workshop.

Lastly, as a Research Assistant at Stanford University, Kelly proposed, designed, and implemented independent research on the impacts of cattle grazing on the dispersal patterns of the butterfly Speyeria mormonia.
