Bendik Fyhn Terjesen

Head Of Landbased Innovation & Development at Cermaq Global

Bendik Fyhn Terjesen has a diverse work experience in the field of aquaculture. Bendik is currently working as a Professor II at Nord University, where they conduct research and teaches in aquaculture technology and biology, with a focus on closed-containment aquaculture systems.

Prior to their current position, Terjesen worked at Cermaq Global, one of the world's largest salmon producers and a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation. Bendik held the roles of Head of Landbased Innovation & Development and Innovation Manager, where they led and coordinated innovation projects in closed-containment salmon farming and production strategies, with a particular focus on RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture Systems).

Terjesen also has a significant work experience with Nofima, where they held several positions including Centre Director at CtrlAQUA SFI, Centre for Closed-Containment Aquaculture, and Senior Research Scientist. During their time at Nofima, Terjesen led various research programs and projects related to RAS and closed-containment systems, as well as industry projects and strategic institute programs.

In addition to their work in academia and industry, Terjesen has also served as a Member of the Board of Directors at the Aquacultural Engineering Society and worked as a Research Scientist at the Aquaculture Protein Centre, Centre of Excellence (SFF, CoE).

Terjesen began their career as a Research Fellow at the University of Bergen, where they conducted research at the Institute of Zoology. Bendik also has prior experience working as an Assistant Manager at Nordvestsmolt AS and served in the Norwegian Armed Forces as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant.

Bendik Fyhn Terjesen has an extensive education history in various fields. Bendik completed their Postdoctoral fellowship in Fish nutrition at The Ohio State University from 2003 to 2004. Prior to that, they earned their Dr. scient degree in Environmental physiology from the University of Bergen (UiB), where they studied from 1996 to 2001. Bendik also holds a Cand. scient. degree in Environmental physiology from UiB, which they obtained from 1992 to 1995.

Terjesen began their academic career at UiB, where they pursued a Cand. mag. degree in Chemistry and biology from 1990 to 1993. Before their studies at UiB, they attended Ålesund University College (HiÅ) from 1988 to 1990, where they pursued a College candidate degree in Aquaculture and fisheries.

In addition to their academic pursuits, Terjesen has military training experience. Bendik attended the Norwegian Armed Forces' USK course in 1987 and obtained the rank of Sgt. in infantry.

Terjesen completed their secondary education at Oddernes gymnas, where they earned their High School diploma from 1983 to 1986.
