Joan Wong

Joan Wong has extensive work experience in the field of bioinformatics. Joan is currently working as an Associate Director of Data Science at Chan Zuckerberg Biohub. Prior to that, they were a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist & Team Lead at Assembly Biosciences, Inc. from 2020 to 2021. From 2017 to 2020, Joan worked as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Pacific Biosciences.

Joan's previous experience includes working at Bayer as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist & Team Lead from 2015 to 2017, where they led a bioinformatics team and managed international research collaborations. Joan also served as a Bioinformatics Scientist at Bayer from 2013 to 2015.

Before joining Bayer, Joan worked as a Bioinformatics Scientist at Solazyme, Inc. in 2012. Joan also has experience as a Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Davis Genome Center in 2012, where their research focused on genome sequencing and de novo assembly for Bremia lactucae.

Joan Wong holds a PhD in Plant Biology with a focus on Molecular Biology from the University of California, Davis. Prior to their doctoral studies, they completed their undergraduate education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Crop Sciences with a specialization in Plant Biotechnology. In addition, they obtained a certification in R Programming from Coursera Verified Certificates in 2015.
