Rui Zhang

Rui Zhang is an accomplished academic and researcher currently serving as the Founding Chief of the Division of Computational Health Sciences at the University of Minnesota. With a robust background in health informatics, Rui Zhang holds multiple leadership roles, including Associate Director of Health Data Science and AI and Director of the Natural Language Processing / Information Extraction Group. Rui Zhang's journey in academia began with a Ph.D. in Health Informatics from the University of Minnesota, complemented by advanced degrees in Informatics and Chemistry from the University of Iowa. Prior experience includes research internships at Nuance Communications and the National Institutes of Health, as well as teaching assistant roles at the University of Iowa. Contributions to the field include developing language models for clinical notes and employing machine learning for automated analyses in health-related contexts.
