Wilbert Frieling

Corporate SVP, Global Discovery Services at Charles River Laboratories

Dr. Wilbert Frieling joined Charles River with the acquisition of WIL Research in April 2016, and assumed the role of Corporate Vice President, Safety Assessment France & the Netherlands, following its completion. In February 2018, Dr. Frieling was appointed Corporate Senior Vice President, Global Discovery Services. In this role, Dr. Frieling leads the Company’s Global Discovery Services business and is focused on driving the growth and expansion of Charles River’s extensive early and in vivo discovery capabilities, as well as leveraging the synergies with the Company’s Safety Assessment business to enhance the extensive services provided to clients.

Prior to joining Charles River, Dr. Frieling was Senior Vice President European Operations for WIL Research, overseeing the sites in Den Bosch, the Netherlands, and Lyon. France. He had held this position since June 2013. Previously, he was Managing Director of the Den Bosch site from 2005 to 2013. Dr. Frieling was Head of Toxicology for NOTOX B.V. between 1996 and 2005, at which time NOTOX B.V. was acquired by WIL Research. Throughout his career in the contract research industry, Dr. Frieling has played a key role in building the outsourced safety assessment industry and defining standards for the welfare of research models. Prior to joining the contract research industry, Dr. Frieling managed his own veterinary practice with two partners from 1991 to 1996.
