David Sopas

Application Security Research Team Leader at Checkmarx

David Sopas has a diverse work experience spanning over multiple years. David is the Co-Founder and COO of Char49 since January 2016. In February 2016, they worked as a Security Consultant at Checkmarx before transitioning to the role of Application Security Research Team Leader in February 2017.

David Sopas has also been actively involved as a Speaker in various events and conferences since October 2013. Some notable events they have participated in include Integration Tomorrow, Critical Techworks, Digital Privacy and Security Conference, CyberCloudExpo, SINF22, 0x49524C OPOSEC, APISecure, C-Days, RSA Conference, and Talk a Bit.

Prior to their roles at Char49 and Checkmarx, David Sopas worked as a Cobalt Core Pentester at Cobalt.io from March 2015 to March 2019. David also gained experience as a Web Security Analyst and intern at Octágono - Comunicação Digital from December 2007 to January 2017.

In 2009, David Sopas founded and served as Editor of WebSegura.net, where they developed web applications for security, wrote articles about security information, and collaborated with the media on security topics.

Additionally, they worked as a Trainer at Privado in 2006, a Developer at Foztek from 2003 to 2005, and a Computer Analyst at Ginásio Clube Figueirense from 2002 to 2003.

David Sopas has a history of education and certifications in the field of technology and information. David completed a degree in "Instalação e Manutenção de Sistemas Informáticos" at CESAE - Centro de Serviços e Apoio às Empresas from 2006 to 2007. Prior to that, they achieved a 12th-grade education in "Tecnologia de Informação" at Escola Dr. Bernardino Machado from 1996 to 1999.

In addition to their formal education, David has obtained numerous certifications in various areas. Some of these certifications include "Artificial Intelligence Essentials: AI-based Chatbots" and "ChatGPT 101: Supercharge Your Work & Life" from Pluralsight, "Artificial Intelligence Essentials: AIOps" and "Artificial Intelligence Essentials: Smart Assistants" from Pluralsight, "Counterintelligence Methods" from the McAfee Institute, "Introduction to Cyber Warfare" and "Investigations on the Deep Web (TOR)" from the McAfee Institute, and "The Craft Of Espionage" from Udemy, all obtained in 2023.

Prior to 2023, David acquired certifications such as "Cyber Security" from W3Schools.com in 2022, "API Security Advanced" from Pentester Academy in 2022, "Android Badge" from PentesterLab in 2019, "Social Engineering Expert" from RedTeam Security in 2019, "Blue Badge," "PCAP Badge," "Unix Badge," "Intercept Badge," "Yellow Badge," "Serialize Badge," "CTF Badge," and "White Badge" all from PentesterLab and obtained between 2017 and 2019.
