Walter White

Managing Director, International Tax at Cherry Bekaert

Walter White began their work experience at Ernst & Young in 1984, where they worked as an Associate and focused on income tax returns. Walter then moved on to Price Waterhouse in 1986, where they worked as a Manager and provided tax consulting services for clients in various government institutions. In 1989, they joined Reed Smith LLP as an Associate, specializing in legal and tax planning for manufacturing and real estate companies. In 1992, Walter became the Director of Tax Planning at Kaiser Aluminum and stayed until 1998. During this time, they also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Houston from 1998 to 1999. In 1998, Walter became a Partner in International Tax at Arthur Andersen & Co. and continued in this role until 2002, when they joined Eaton as the Managing Director of Tax. In 2003, they founded the Houston international tax practice at Grant Thornton LLP, where they eventually became the Central Region Managing Partner of International Tax and Transfer Pricing. Walter joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018 as an Adjunct Professor of Law, and they are currently working as the Managing Director, International Tax at Cherry Bekaert. Throughout their career, Walter has specialized in international tax consulting, mergers and acquisitions, earnings repatriation planning, and offshore investment structuring.

Walter White obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1977 to 1981. Walter then pursued a Doctor of Law degree (JD) at the University of North Carolina School of Law from 1981 to 1984. Additionally, they obtained certifications as a Certified Public Accountant from the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy in 2001 and from the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners in 1987. Walter also acquired licenses to practice law from the Virginia State Bar in 1989 and from the North Carolina State Bar in 1984.
