The executive team at Children's Defense Fund has a history of working in various political and legal positions. These positions include working as a chief of staff at the New York State Senate, community and faith organizer at NY United & New York Communities for Change (NYCC), and director of community relations at the NYC Department of Social Services (DSS). The team also has experience founding and leading ministries, such as the Awakening the Conscience Today Ministry (ACT Ministry) at First Corinthian Baptist Church (FCBC), as well as working as a program director for the Justice Project at Advancement Project. Additionally, the team has interned at the St. Louis Public Defender and co-founded the ArchCity Defenders. They also have experience working as clerks at Law Offices of Kenneth R. Schwartz. The team's education histories include degrees from American University - Kogod School of Business, Real Estate; Saint Louis University School of Law, International and Criminal Law; and Université Paris Dauphine - PSL, International and Business Law.
