George Dermody has a extensive work experience in various leadership roles within the nonprofit sector. George served as the President and CEO of the Children's Home of Wyoming Conference, where they worked to develop and implement quality services for children and families. Prior to this, they were the Vice President of Mission Programs at Goodwill Industries of Northeastern Pennsylvania. George also served as the Regional Executive Director at NHS Human Services, overseeing community and residential services in Pennsylvania and New York. George was the Executive Director at Tri-County Human Services, Inc., a community-based behavioral health organization. Earlier in their career, George was the State Director at Youth Advocate Programs, Inc., where they developed services and provided consultation in multiple states.

George Dermody completed their high school education at York Central High School from 1973 to 1977, earning a Regents diploma. George then pursued a Bachelor's degree in Psychology at St. John Fisher University from 1977 to 1981. Afterward, they enrolled at The Catholic University of America from 1984 to 1987, where they obtained a Master's degree in Divinity (M.Div).
