Kelly Hwang has a diverse work experience in various roles related to therapy and counseling. Kelly started their career in 2006 as a Research Assistant at the University of California, Los Angeles. Kelly then worked as a Research Interviewer before transitioning into the field of therapy. From 2009 to 2010, Kelly worked as a Therapist at Exodus Recovery, Inc. and Culver City Youth Health Center. Kelly then worked as a Crisis Counselor at Crisis Support Services from 2010 to 2011.
In 2011, Kelly joined Harbor View Community Services Center as a Therapist and School Coordinator. Kelly was later promoted to the role of Full Service Partnership Clinical Supervisor and finally served as the Full Service Partnership Manager before leaving in 2016.
Following their tenure at Harbor View, Kelly worked as a Therapist in private practice from 2015 to the present. Kelly also took on a role as a Program Manager at Children's Institute in 2016. Throughout their career, Kelly has gained experience in different therapeutic roles, research, and management positions.
Kelly Hwang's education history begins with their obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Psychobiology and Asian American Studies from UCLA in the years 2003 to 2007. Kelly then pursued a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University from 2008 to 2010. In 2019 to 2020, Kelly attended the University of California, Davis and completed the Napa Infant-Parent Mental Health Fellowship.
In addition to their educational achievements, Kelly Hwang has obtained various certifications. In September 2020, they received certifications as an Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist and a Reflective Practice Facilitator II from the California Center for Infant-Family and Early Childhood Mental Health. In June 2017, they became a Seeking Safety (SS) Champion through Lisa Najavits, PhD, and Brenda Underhill, MS.
Kelly also holds a certification in Trauma Focused - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) from the California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions, achieved in July 2016. In November 2012, they received a Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) - Level 4 Standard certification from The University of Queensland. Additionally, they have been designated as a Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Designated professional by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health in August 2020. Moreover, they are a Managing and Adapting Practice (MAP) Therapist certified since July 2017 and a Managing Adapting Practice (MAP) Supervisor certified since February 2019, both from PracticeWise.
