Scott Thompson

Scott Thompson has a diverse and extensive work experience across various companies and roles. Scott is currently working as a Law Firm Partner at Lippes Mathias LLP since April 2021. Prior to that, they served as an Independent Director on the Board of Directors at Chill.com starting from January 2022. Before that, they worked as a Business, Strategy, and Organizational Consultant at IP-Portunity from January 2021.

Scott has also held significant positions at Mars, where they served as the General Counsel for Intellectual Property and Marketing Properties from February 2013 to December 2020. Scott was responsible for overseeing trademarks, copyrights, social media, and marketing. In July 2017, they took on additional responsibilities for all intellectual property and related commercial matters. Scott also served as the Interim Global General Counsel for Mars Edge from July 2017 to April 2020.

Before joining Mars, Scott was a Partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, where they moved their entire practice and team from Greenberg Traurig. Scott represented Fortune 100 companies in global intellectual property matters, achieving notable results in trademark infringement cases and patent infringement lawsuits. Scott also structured and drafted trademark license agreements.

Prior to Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, Scott was an Equity Partner at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, developing a multimillion-dollar practice. Scott represented Fortune 100 clients in trademark, copyright, patent, unfair competition, advertising, internet, and social media matters.

Scott's work experience also includes roles at GSK, where they served as the Vice President for Global Trademarks, and at Colgate Palmolive, where they were the Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Trademarks. Scott began their career as an Assistant General Counsel for Trademarks at Altria, previously known as Philip Morris.

Scott has a strong background in trademark, copyright, intellectual property, and commercial matters. Scott has overseen litigation, counseling, negotiations, acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic planning.

Scott Thompson obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Communication Arts from Cornell University, where they studied from 1976 to 1980. Following that, they attended Brooklyn Law School from 1980 to 1983, where they earned their Doctor of Law (JD) degree with a focus on Law.

In terms of certifications, Scott Thompson obtained their license to practice law in New York State in 1984, making him a licensed attorney in good standing. Scott also obtained licenses to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern District of New York.
