Brian Mullen has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Brian most recently held the position of Vice President Research and Development and Chief Scientist at Chromatic 3D Materials starting in May 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Evolve Additive Solutions, where they served as the Director of Application and Technology Development, responsible for strategic planning, technical support, and implementing new product introductions and platforms. Brian also held roles as the Process and Applications Engineering Manager, as well as the Build Process Engineering Manager at Evolve Additive Solutions.
Prior to their time at Evolve Additive Solutions, Brian worked at BASF as a Technology Manager-Research and Development, leading R&D and innovation in coatings, adhesives, sealants, flooring, mortars, and wall systems applications. Brian also served as the Product Development Manager in R&D Construction Chemicals at BASF.
Before joining BASF, Brian worked as a Consultant in 2015 and as the Chief Scientific Officer at Segetis Inc, where they led multiple paths of R&D to commercialize Levulinic Acid-based technology. Brian also held the positions of Principal Scientist and R&D Leader, as well as Developmental Chemistry Leader at Segetis Inc.
Brian's earlier work experience includes roles as a Senior Scientist at Segetis Inc and as a Platform Chemist/Product Developer/Black Belt at GE Plastics.
Overall, Brian Mullen has demonstrated expertise in research and development, strategic planning, technical support, and innovation in various industries, including 3D materials, additive solutions, construction chemicals, and biobased chemicals and materials.
Brian Mullen obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Southern Indiana from 1994 to 1998. Brian further pursued their education at The University of Southern Mississippi, where they earned their Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from 1998 to 2003. In addition to their formal education, Brian also obtained the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (ICBB) certification from Air Academy Associates in May 2017.
