Job description

Chronosphere

Chronosphere is the provider of the only observability platform that puts engineering organizations back in control by taming rampant data growth and cloud-native complexity, delivering increased business confidence. Teams at startups to well-known global brands in the Fortune 500 around the world trust Chronosphere to help them operate scalable, highly available and resilient applications.

Chronosphere is looking for trailblazers who are experts in their space and are passionate about creating meaningful solutions for engineers and digital businesses.

Chronosphere is a series C startup with more than $343M in funding and a $1B+ valuation. We’re a remote-first company, backed by Greylock, Lux Capital, General Atlantic, Addition and Founders Fund.

About the role

The tracing team you will be joining is responsible for building and maintaining all our capabilities for distributed tracing in the Chronosphere product and driving the revenue for our business line. We help our customers control, understand and derive value from their tracing telemetry data.

You will

  • Contribute to product direction and engineering goals for the team
  • Partner and plan work with sister teams to meet our shared goals
  • Shape our architecture for the short term and long term to meet our product and reliability requirements
  • Design, implement, and operate high-volume services in Go on top of Kubernetes/GCP/AWS/Clickhouse
  • Refine the way we build and release software by contributing to building systems, test frameworks, deployment tools, and monitoring
  • Contribute to our team rituals and processes

What you will achieve

Within the first 30 days, you will work with your manager to optimize your onboarding plan for how you learn best. You will develop an understanding of Chronosphere’s business, platform and tracing capabilities. You will have time to learn about our customer’s needs, and the underlying technology. You will build relationships with your teammates. You will start contributing to the product.

Within 60 days, you will work on small projects and enhancements that give you breadth of experience in our stack.  You will learn about and participate in our reliability practices.

Within 90 days, you will guide more ambiguous and highly complex projects. You will contribute to our product ideas and roadmap. You will develop relationships with engineers outside the team.

You have

  • The ability to operate independently and own highly complex problems from inception to delivery
  • The ability to partner effectively with cross-functional partners e.g. product, design, technical writing
  • A bias to action, strong ownership, and ability to break down complex product goals into smaller iterative milestones for frequent delivery
  • The inclination to lead, weigh trade-offs, mitigate risks, make decisions, and unblock others
  • Expertise in building and operating highly available systems at scale and with high standards for code quality and design
  • Excellent skills in a system-level language such as Go, C++, Java, C#, or Rust. Knowing a specific language isn’t important; what matters is that you’ve become fluent in one by spending a lot of time on the types of projects where these languages are used
  • The willingness to coach and mentor other engineers
  • A collaborative working style
