Melissa Mahurin Whitehead

Melissa Mahurin Whitehead has experience working in various legal roles. Melissa began their career as a Law Clerk for Honorable Marvin E. Aspen at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in 2008 and continued in that position until 2009. Melissa then went on to serve as a Law Clerk for Honorable Eugene E. Siler, Jr. at the U.S. Court of Appeals Sixth Circuit from 2009 to 2010. In 2010, Melissa joined Alston & Bird LLP as an Associate, where they worked until 2014. During their time at Alston & Bird LLP, they held the position of Senior Associate from January 2014 to October 2014. From 2014 to 2019, Melissa worked at Tachau Meek PLC as an Associate. Most recently, they joined Churchill Downs Incorporated, where they initially served as Counsel starting in February 2019 and then became Vice President, Legal in March 2021.

Melissa Mahurin Whitehead obtained a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in Law from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, where they studied from 2005 to 2008. Prior to that, they completed a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Psychology at The University of Georgia from 2003 to 2005. Melissa's Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology was earned at Georgetown College from 1999 to 2003. It is unclear when and if they received any formal education from duPont Manual High School.
