Karen Olsen

Computer Vision Scientist at CIBO

Karen Olsen is a computer vision scientist at CIBO. Karen studied the evolution of galaxies with a focus on the interstellar medium (ISM) responsible for star formation. By developing software that simulates the line emission coming from the ISM and comparing with observations, they created diagnostics that can probe the underlying physics of the ISM. Karen was funded by a 2-yr NASA grant to apply this method to a sample of nearby galaxies observed with the Herschel Space Observatory.

Olsen conducted research into some of the ways that renewable energy can be integrated into multi-energy systems, using data science methods to analyze time series data from power systems and simulating demand and production of heat and power.

Karen was a postdoctoral research fellow at Arizona State University from September 2015 to June 2018.

Olsen was a PhD student at Dark Cosmology Centre from January 2011 to May 2015.

Karen Olsen has a PhD in Astrophysics from Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen and a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Aarhus University.

Karen Olsen reports to Bruno Basso, Co-Founder & Chief Scientist. Karen Olsen works with Margaret Kosmala - Principal Data Scientist, James Han - Quantitative Agricultural Scientist, and Kofi Dzotsi - Principal Crop Scientist.
