Bob van Valzah

Bob Van Valzah has a diverse work experience that spans over several years. Bob most recently worked at Citadel Securities as a Low Latency Market Structure Researcher, where they focused on solving interesting problems related to improving average completion times and speeding up slower tasks. Prior to that, Bob worked for himself in retirement research, where they explored various technologies and stayed away from activities that would violate their non-compete agreement.

Before their self-directed work, Bob was a Performance Engineer at XR Trading, where they ensured that their colleagues had up-to-date market information and their orders were executed quickly. Bob also had a six-month hiatus due to a non-compete agreement after Hudson River Trading acquired Sun Trading. During this time, Bob discovered the use of shortwave radio for low-latency trading across oceans.

Bob's earlier experiences include working as a Latency Buster at Sun Trading LLC, where they enjoyed making systems go faster. Bob also worked as a Director of Product Marketing at Informatica and Director of Technical Marketing at 29West, Inc., where they managed technical relationships, planned marketing efforts, and presented seminars on high-performance messaging.

Bob's career began as a Product Manager at TIBCO Software, where they managed product lines and developed techniques for reliable multicast networks. Bob also worked as a Product Manager at Talarian Corp., where they managed the SmartPGM product line and worked with IETF to approve the PGM reliable multicast protocol for Internet use. Bob's earliest role was as a Project Manager at WhiteBarn, where they managed development projects before the company was acquired by Talarian.

Bob Van Valzah attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 1978 to 1983. Bob earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the College of Engineering during this time. Their field of study was specifically focused on Computer Science.
