John Curley has over 30 years of experience in the field of architecture. John has a diverse work history, starting as a Project Architect/Intern at PSA/Dewberry from 1989 to 1994. John then worked as a Project Architect at Healy, Bender & Associates, Inc. from 1994 to 1995, and at PHN Architects from 1995 to 1996. John also worked as a Project Architect/Project Manager at Ream Hauser Architects from 1996 to 1999.

In 2001, John joined the City of Aurora, where they held multiple roles over the years. John started as the Director of Building & Permits from 2001 to 2005. John was then promoted to Assistant Director of the Community Development Department from 2005 to 2009, where they were responsible for eight divisions and managed a budget of $5.7 million. From 2009 to 2017, John served as the Building & Permits Division Director. Finally, in 2017, they were promoted to the position of Chief Development Services Officer.

Throughout their career, John has implemented various strategies to enhance development services, including streamlining zoning entitlements, engineering approvals, fire code, and building code site design elements. In addition to their formal education, John Curley has also obtained various certifications. John became a Certified Fire Marshal through the International Code Council in 2016. In 2011, they achieved the status of Certified Building Official, also from the International Code Council. Furthermore, they hold an Illinois Licensed Architect credential, which they obtained from the State of Illinois in 1995.
